THE SHEER ECSTASY OF BEING A
LUNATIC FARMER
Joel Salatin might be described as co-owner of
Polyface Farm in Swoope, VA, featured in The New
York Times bestseller “The Omnivore’s Dilemma.”
Or he might be described as a lecturer and writer:
his most recent work is “The Marvelous Pigness of
Pigs.” However, he calls himself “a Christian,
libertarian, environmentalist, capitalist, lunatic farmer.”
A delightful raconteur, Salatin will help us understand
the difference between today’s average farm and his
famous Polyface Farm, nestled in the Shenandoah
Valley, where four generations of Salatins have lived
since 1961. His local, pasture-based, sustainable farm
differs dramatically from industrial commodity-based,
machine-driven operations. Mixing mischievous humor
with compelling information, Salatin will insure that we
never think of food and farming the same way again.
