Elsie Embraces Resilience to Rise Above Grief and Adversity, To Thrive, and to be Happy Again

February 26 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Speaker: Allison Gilbert

Chair; Susan C. Taylor

Vice Chair: Lyons H. Burke

Allison Gilbert is an Emmy award-winning journalist and author of numerous books, including the biography of Hearst newspaper columnist Elsie Robinson, “Listen, World!,” coauthored with Julia Scheeres. Gilbert will discuss how Robinson overcame an unhappy marriage and death of a child to become the most widely read female columnist and the highest-paid woman writer in the Hearst empire. On 9/11, Allison Gilbert, then a producer at WNBC-TV, was nearly killed by falling debris when the second tower collapsed. After this personal traumatic experience, she became the official narrator of the 9/11 Memorial Museum’s historical exhibition audio tour, the only female journalist to be so honored. Gilbert will share insights from her previous books about personal resilience, the ability to recover from illness, depression, or adversity.
