Respectfully Provocative Since 1894
In 1894, fourteen Richmond women came together in the parlor of Jane Crawford Looney Lewis’s home on West Franklin Street. By the time they left, they had established a literary and cultural association designed for “the delightful friction of well-trained minds,” at a time when most women weren’t allowed to go to college.

The Bolling Haxall House Foundation is dedicated to preserving this Virginia Historic Landmark as a community resource. Built in 1858 and meticulously restored and preserved since the 1990s, The Bolling Haxall House stands as a reminder of Richmond’s remarkable past and serves the community today as a location for civic, government, and nonprofit group meetings and gatherings.
